With its driver squad, Porsche trusts in continuity and expertise. In the major sports car series, the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC and the IMSA SportsCar Championship as well as international GT3 race series and prestigious individual events, Porsche builds on its outstanding talent and the extensive experience of its works drivers. Including the Porsche Juniors and the Porsche Young Professionals, 25 drivers make up the factory squad. Most of these drivers have come up through the ranks of Porsche’s successful motorsport pyramid with comprehensive training and support. The only newcomer in 2019 is Jaxon Evans. The young New Zealander contests the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as the new Porsche Junior.
Experienced top drivers compete
Porsche relies on continuity for its major programme with the 911 RSR in the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC and the North American IMSA SportsCar Championship. Like in 2018, Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz (No. 91) as well as Michael Christensen and Kévin Estre (No. 92) compete on a world stage in the two works cars. The successful pair receives support at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from their Porsche colleagues Frédéric Makowiecki and Laurens Vanthoor.
In the IMSA series, Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy man the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR, with Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor competing in the No. 912 sister car. At the longest races of the year, they will be joined by works driver Frédéric Makowiecki and Young Professional Mathieu Jaminet. The Porsche factory drivers Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long, the Young Professionals Matteo Cairoli and Matt Campbell as well as Porsche Junior Julien Andlauer support customer teams in their championship campaigns around the world and in North America.
In major GT3 race series and at important individual events of the year, Porsche also puts its trust in its own top-league drivers. At the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring, Richard Lietz, Nick Tandy, Patrick Pilet and Frédéric Makowiecki aim to defend the title in the new Porsche 911 GT3 R. Sharing the cockpit of the second vehicle run by Manthey-Racing are Earl Bamber, Michael Christensen, Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor. Romain Dumas, Sven Müller, Mathieu Jaminet, Dirk Werner, Dennis Olsen and Matt Campbell contest the five long-distance races of the Intercontinental GT Challenge on five continents. The other drivers from the 25-strong Porsche squad take on the challenge of top-class events and series in customer vehicles.
